Witch hunt operations continue: Hundreds of Gulen sympathizers detained for helping the needy

Turkey woke up another ‘ordinary’ day in Erdogan’s Turkey. 704 people from different walks of life were arrested just because of coordinating help and assistance for the needy suffering under the relentless oppressions of the Erdogan regime since the faux coup in 2016.

The Interior Minister ordered the police to conduct operations in 59 cities to detain 543 participants of the Hizmet Movement. The mother of a 10-year girl was stunned when the police raided her home. The video shot released by the law enforcement shows the mother was busy preparing a cake for her daughter at the time of the raid. Showing no humane respect to the household, her house was ransacked in the name of a search-and-seizure operation.

Suleyman Soylu, the Interior Minister, briefed the media after this shameful operation. He asserted that the simultaneous operations conducted in 59 provinces carried the code name ‘Ghazi’ (Veteran) and was supervised by Turgut Aslan, the Chief of the Police Anti-Terrorism Unit. Reportedly, 19 participants of the Hizmet Movement in Bursa, 40 in Kutahya and 87 in Ankara have been arrested in the ‘Operation Ghazi’ so far. The criminal evidence found and seized in houses include a cacao cake with a slice missing, potato chips, staple food items and some cash of lower denominations spared for the needy.

An unnamed source who is also a relative of the mother who was detained while she was preparing a cake for her three children said the father of the family was arrested six years earlier and is yet to be released. Now, the mother has been detained. When the police raided the house, the mother did not stop preparing the meal for her children until she was done and taken into custody. Her three children and several other children have been left unsupervised by their parents who were summarily arrested by the police.

Advocates of Silenced Turkey (AST), address all human rights violations in Turkey regarding civil, political, economic, social and cultural as contained in the basic human rights document, started an awareness campaign against this insane and unlawful operation of the Interior Minister against the innocent people who only do voluntary work to assist the needy oppressed under the Erdogan regime. AST started social media campaign with #OperationToHumanitarianRelief and #StopMassArrests hashtags to let the oppressed be heard in the World. As stated in the social media posts of the AST, this is an urgent matter urging the international community to step in and deal with the Erdogan regime to end the witch-hunts and illegitimate police operations against the innocent civilians.
